Young Love

Love is patient, love is kind.It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking.It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.Love never fails.

I Corinthians 13:4-8

This is my beloved, and this is my friend.

Song of Soloman 5:16

When my wife and I married, this is what we wrote each other after the birth of our first child. The poems reflect young love in its beginning stages of life together and the start of a family. May you find something in them that makes you stop and reflect on someone special to you.

If I was not meant to love you, why does your hand fit so well into mine?

When you are not near, you cause my heart to pine.

Why do I look at you like I do?

Why does my soul long for you?

Why do you drive me so mad to only love you more?

Looking at you the one I adore.

Why did I have to make you my wife?

How did you know when to show up at the right time of my life?

Why do I long for the touch of your hand against my cheek?

Hanging on to every word you speak.

Why did I want to make a home with you?

May reflections of our love continuously renew.

How amazing the love that gave us such a lovely little girl,

Waiting and watching her life unfurl.

Why can't I stand the thought of being alone without you?

Our days on earth are so few.

Why do you make my pulse quicken and lose my breath?

May we only be separated in death.

Why do I want you by my side when I die?

At that moment when you may cry.

Dying is something we all must do,

But we will be together again cause our Lord will make everything new.

How I love your strong, loving embrace,

Everytime I look into your gorgeous face.

You loved me all along,

You make me feel strong.

I longed for you to talk to me when I first saw you,

And my heart didn't know what to do.

Being like chocolate melting in your hand,

The boundless love that did expand.

Your big beautiful blue eyes make me feel that way still,

Our lives together waiting to fulfill.

Our brand new daughter is made from you and me,

With God's breath inside her set free.

At different times in our lives we had met briefly. Never to talk but only exchange glances over the years. Never realizing we grew up just across the state line from each other. Only two miles between our homes. Seperated by fate, never to meet until a preordained time. God plans things and unfolds them in His own way.

My prayer is ...

Dear God,

May we be not just lovers ordained by God in marriage, but friends that share our innermost thoughts.

May we dream about each other so we can be together all the time.

May I always allow myself to be loved by her. Continuously tearing down all the barriers I built up against love.

May we not kill our love with the one thing that can kill it - neglect.

May the gift of my love be a gift I never ask to take back.

May I always want good for her and celebrate in her accomplishments.

May love vanquish time in each others moments together.

May she be the one I talk to, the one to share the beauty of the stars with, to laugh with, to touch, and the one to bring joy to my life.

May my heart never wither from not hearing from hers.

May the love she give continue to bring out the best in me.

May I continue to learn how to love others in the way she loves me.

May her love continue to flow back and soften my heart.

May our hopes rest in Christ who proved love is stronger than death.

Today I had lunch with my sister who said that she was astounded that my husband and I are still together. She said: Somehow you reached an understanding, because despite all your troubles, the two of you get along so well. It wasn't until this year that I realized God wanted me to be with this man. I married him feeling it was the right thing to do, but only this year did I sense that this had been God's plan all along. Strange.

Lovely post to read.

As Susan said before me...
"We've reached an understanding-"

Not really romantic- or earth shattering...but real, honest, true...God's plan-
Not mine-
And here we are~

I still have the option of screwing it up- and sometimes I try :)
God Bless you Lance-

Be assured that we were all created to be our Heavenly Father's children by faith; but He has always wanted more than that. Hence: the kind of love being expressed in this post is the same as what He has always had for each and every one of us, on an individual basis and without exception. May we want to return it.

And that's how I feel, people tell me I shouldn't worry--and I don't, but they think I do. People tell me when I write a sad poem that I shouldn't, but I did because I wanted to, not because that's how I feel. I write hopeful things when down, for the most part, and sad things when I can put the emotion in the right context.

I know that there's a plan for me. So I don't worry about it. That's the power of true faith.

And I'm sticking to it!

Great post. I'm glad that you found your wife and she found you. All is good.

Beautiful, Lance. Your poems, God's love, marriage preordained by God- it's all beautiful.

It is so beautiful to read about true love. I had true love in my life for thirty years. My Husband died a few years ago. Love like that is hard to find. I hope someday I find another love. I am not sure if you only get to have one true love in a life time or not. I hope it isn't true and I can have one more.

Love and Blessings,

If you think it is awesome now, wait until you celebrate 25 years of being married (God willing).

When Susan and I wed, neither of us was in Christ. But looking back over the years and all the experiences, we have no doubt that God brought us together.

We love each other dearly, but even so, it pales in comparison to our love of God. Our love for Him is over and above our love for each other - for without Him we would not know love at all.

You sound like the sweetest guy! You also have no trouble expressing your feelings. (which is rare for men generally) I'm glad that your love for your wife moves you so much that you are able to put thought to paper. (so to speak) I think it's wonderful!

I personally am not the mushy type and if my husband wrote me something like that, I'd probably choke on my chicklets! He is a lot like you, very expressive, romantic, and just the sweetest guy but I'm not like that at all! :)My idea of a poem is:

Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
Some poems rhyme
But this one doesn't.

hahahaha (I'm amusing myself - haven't gotten any sleep)

After reading that, you're putting ideas in my head to come up with a nickname for you....I'll do it, I really will. hahaha

May the Lord continue to bless you both and your marriage.

How beautiful and intimate. Behind this is the picture of the love of the Bridegroom and the Church. God longs for this same intimacy with us. What a love letter we have in His word! Thank you for sharing...

Both you and Gina are so blessed to have each other, Lance.

I am always so happy to see another happy & loving couple. Everytime my wife and I pass by an old couple still holding hands after so many years, we pray we will be like them in the future.

Keep your love for Christ as the pinnacle of your relationship, and your marriage will always be blessed. Because when you have God in you, you have love, for God is love.

Have a great year ahead, Lance and Gina. Blessings and my love to you and everyone at home!

Shalom Aleichem.
