Wedding Band

I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine. Song of Solomon 2:16

With this ring I thee wed, with my body I thee worship, and with all my worldly goods I thee endow.- Book of Common Prayer

Open your bible to anywhere in it. Then take a wedding ring and place it on end inside the bible between the pages. Put some light behind the ring. Notice the shadow that it casts. It looks like a heart shape. Neat trick or is it something more?

The story behind the wedding band is a unique one.The ring symbolizes seeing the circular band with no break representing eternity and love, endless devotion, with no beginning and no end. Even the ring hole has the meaning of a door to events known and unknown for two committed to each other. It being placed on the third finger of the left hand, in the belief that a vein - called the vena amoris in Latin - ran directly from that finger to the heart, hence the vein of love. In medieval England, a bridegroom would slide the ring part way up his bride's thumb, index and middle finger, saying "In the name of the father, the son, and the holy ghost" as he passed each one. He then put the ring on the next available finger - the third finger of the left hand. In the middle ages, rings were inscribed inside with poems or love messages and continued to be popular through Victorian times. Inscriptions inside wedding bands endure to this day.

It comes right down to two souls and two hearts becoming one through God. Place your marriage in God's word, let the light of Christ shine through, and love will cast it's shadow over your union.

Methinks that the heart-shaped shadow is no trick. By the way: either it's new or I've not been paying attention (again); but your "slideshow" feature is really cool. You certianly have been blessed with a wonderful family; and my wife would say that you look a lot like Tom Everett Scott, who starred in Tom Hank's "That Thing You Do" a few years back. (Personally: I don't think you're THAT purdy; but my wife has accused me of being rather snide before.)

I like that medieval tradition; we may rededicate our vows when we hit the 25 mark--still have plenty of time for that one, but I would like that. I never take my ring off, but my husband won't wear his as he can't stand jewelry and it gets in the way when he works. Occassionally he gets hit on, but he seems to radiate an aura that says--I am married.

I thought about it all my whole life! A neverending relation, neverending love and aliance. An eternal and unconditional loove is that one we feel for our sons. But we all need another kind of partner..or..how come would we have sons?

The circle, as you well said "symbolizes seeing the circular band with no break representing eternity and love, endless devotion, with no beginning and no end". A circle is the infinite like the number 8..it never ends.

I miss my twin soul. I dont know where it could be now. But happy are those who finds what you found dear bro in Christ.

With the love you have in your soul you could bright my days.. even beeing too far. You are the prayer for all lost souls..and I was one of them.

From you I started to think about my feeling for God and someday I was opened to hear about God from someone here.

I dont need to say "God bless you" cause you and your family are already blessed. And who am I to wish you to be blessed? Sometime back I was too lost. Im re-learning to walk and fly again.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful world with us Lance. You didnt and you dont know me but even so you were here to help me. And I know you do that for everyone who is lost. You are a special soul.

Your sister in Christ
